To Parents and Caretakers

I hope that you can read to your child or a child.  This is something special that you can do.  For new parents and caretakers, it is never too early to start reading to your child.  Reading to a child can benefit a child in many ways.   Please click here for more info.

  • Reading to a child is a special time for both of your to relax.
  • Read to preschoolers and kindergarteners for about ten minutes each day.
  • As children begin to read, have books available for them.   Some parents look for books on sale or borrow books from their your local library.
  • Discuss the book with your child as they get older.  When I visit kindergarten classes, the kindergarteners like to answer simple questions or talk about a part of the book that they enjoy.
  • Sometimes, it helps to read children books that you enjoy.  If you like the book, the child can hear it in your voice.
  • Make reading a pleasant experience for the child.   Listening to a story is a relaxing time for a child.  Many children look forward to hearing a story before they take a nap or go to bed.
  • If a book is not available, it is also fun to tell a story that you remember or from your own experience.
  • Reading promotes literacy, and studies show that reading out loud benefits a child.
  • Read A Story hopes that you read to a child today!!
